Winnipeg Public Transit

When evaluating a city one key component is the public transportation system. Even if you own a car a solid public transportation system can act as a backup and can also help out during weekend entertainment when alcohol is involved. Winnipeg has a solid public transportation backbone that many rely on as they primary way to get around the city.
The city provides a useful interactive map that helps people understand and plan their use of the system. It is made up of 12 different maps that cover the entire city. There are 11 maps numbered and one labelled “downtown”. Once you activate the chosen map there are convent tabs that navigate you to the next map to continue the search. To activate a map simply click on the map or map name.
As an example the downtown map contains 10 downtown routes and has 60 express routes to cover that area. The entire map is riddled with blue dots that mark all of the bus stops. Since this map falls entirely inside Map 6 each side of the map has a tab that takes you to the next map which is map 6. Whereas map 9 borders on other maps, so the top part of the map has tabs that take you to either map 6 or map 7.
There seems to be a higher frequency of people that rent apartments that also rely on the public transportation system so this is often a helpful piece of information in their decision making process.
Winnipeg Library Locations and Hours

Another consideration for many people, when looking at apartments for rent, is the local public library system. Regardless of whether you are a student the public library is a very useful place to be familiar with. Since this amenity is free, it only makes sense for a resident to make use of it.
There are in total 20 local libraries in Winnipeg. All but three are closed on the weekends during the summer. The three libraries that are open on Saturday are: Millennium, St-Boniface and Sir William Stephenson. Also many of the locations are closed on Wednesday’s in the summer. These less liberal hours are in effect until the beginning of September.
One other point that needs to be addressed is the distribution of these libraries throughout the city. There seems to be more libraries in the north end of the city, in and around the downtown core. While the south end of the city has few locations available.
The city provides an interactive map that has blue dots showing where they are located. And if a user clicks one of the dots they get additional information which includes the proper address of the building, the hours of operation, parking information, transit information, program information and a few other points as well.
Winnipeg Parks

There are several larger regional parks located in the city of Winnipeg. These parks are distributed throughout the city with: 2 in the north, 2 in the north east, 3 in the south, 2 in the south east and 2 down town (one east of the river and one west).
The following link lists all the parks and each park has its own link with a detailed list of what that park has to offer. For example the details page for Kildonan Park starts with a link to detailed directions and its street address. Then there is a list of bookable area’s or sites within the park and includes a link to a map of the park’s amenities. It then lists the areas for wedding pictures and ceremony sites. Finally, a more detailed list of the amenities: special features, buildings, washrooms and athletic fields.
Parks are another free amenity of the city and provides both individuals and families an opportunity for fun and relaxation.
